The people of the city are known as "Angelenos." Within the US, the city of Los Angeles is the most diverse metropolitan area.

At present, the metro L.A. area is the largest manufacturing center within the entire United States. Situated within Los Angeles is one of the countries busiest ports and serves as a distribution center for the west coast and a gateway to Asia. Los Angeles features 7 Fortune 500 company headquarters, including AECOM, an engineering firm; Reliance Steel & Aluminum, a metals distributor; Northrop Grumman, an aerospace contractor; CB Richard Ellis and Tutor Perini, a builder forming a real estate group and Health Net, a healthcare provider and Occidental Petroleum, an energy company.

The economy in Los Angeles City is driven by the entertainment city like for instance: video games, television programs, motion pictures and recorded music. Located within San Pedro, the Port of Los Angeles is located approximately 32 km or 20 miles south of Downtown in the neighbourhood of San Pedro. It is also known as Los Angeles Harbor or WorldPort LA. The port adjoins the separate Port of Long Beach. The port complex comprises 7500 acres or 30 km2 of land and water along 69 km or 43 miles of water front.
