The city of Sacramento is situated at the point where the Sacramento River and the American River meet in the northern part of the Central Valley. The city is the seat of Sacramento County and is the capital of the state of California. The city is the seventh largest city within the state of California with a population of approximately 466,676. Out of all the different communities in the county, Sacramento was ranked the most culturally and economically diverse in the year 2002 by Time magazine.

The city is usually called the "River City" as it is located close to the confluence of the Sacramento River and the American River. Numerous kayakers, rafters and boaters come to the area from all around the globe. In addition, the stunning twenty three mile American River Parkway attracts bicyclists, runners, and walkers to enjoy the picturesque surroundings.

A 43-mile channel through the Sacramento River Delta connects San Fransisco bay to Sacramento's deepwater port. The deep water is utilized for both pleasure trips to the bay and international shipping. The major rail and shipping center, which carries fruit, vegetables, rice, dairy, beef and wheat products for the whole Sacramento Valley area is likewise situated here.

There is an assortment of Gold Rush era treasures in Old Sacramento, including the paddlewheel steamboat "Delta King".

Within Sacramento, food processing is a major trade within Sacramento. The city even employs government employees, about 25 percent of the 471,000 government staff within the state of California. With a yearly temperature of 61.1 F, the city of Sacramento has a very temperate weather. The winters are cool, with temperature ranges from 45.8 F in the month of December to 75.4 F during the month of July. The summers are generally dry and hot, but the heat is tempered by the "delta breeze", that comes from the San Francisco Bay.
