Located in San Diego County, Oceanside is currently the third biggest city in the area with an estimated population of 183,095. The city along with Carlsbad and Vista together form a tri-city area. The Marine Corps Base Cape Pendleton, is the busiest military base in the country and sits just north of the city. During the year 1970, the population was only 45,000. The huge increase in population caused the area to mostly concentrate on constructing single family home tracts between the years 1970 and 1990. Ever since then, however, the city has started to concentrate on increasing industrial and commercial development.

There are various businesses and industries that have chosen to build in Oceanside. For individuals who would like to start up an office-type, commercial or industrial business, the city gives incentive plans so as to help encourage development. In addition, the property tax is amongst the lowest within the county. Amongst the biggest sectors is the manufacturing of sporting and recreational machines. In addition, biotech and medtech businesses are emerging and doing very well. Agriculture is really essential to the San Diego County area and thrives in the wonderful weather conditions. Avocados, citrus fruit, flowers, nursery stock, and tomatoes all grow very well here.

Oceanside is in an ideal location to build a business or to raise a family. It is able to maintain its natural beauty while still being extremely accessible to other major cities such as San Diego, which is 35 miles south of the city, and Los Angeles, which is eighty three miles north. There is an abundance of land accessible for a reasonable price and lots of resources left untapped.

Interstate 5, amongst the main highways, runs directly through the city. Highway 78, that runs southeast and Highway 76, which runs northeast, both lead to Interstate 15.
