Simi Valley lies in Southeast Ventura County approximately twenty seven miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles. As of the month of December 2005, the city had a total population of 126,329, making it the 3rd largest city in Ventura County. It was incorporated in the year 1969 and has a total area of 42 square miles.

It is believed that the cities name first originated from the Chumash Indian Village Himeji. Initially, the city was divided into two cities: Tapo and Simi. The Indians who settled within the city were really clever. They utilized the acorns from the Coast Live Oak (the cities official tree) and the rosehips from the California Wild Rose (the cities official flower) to help supplement their diet.

In the year 1795, one of the biggest land grants in history was made to the city of Simi Valley. Land totaling roughly 100 000 acres was granted to Luis Pena and Santiago Pico by Governor Diego de Borica of Spanish California. The area was called El Rancho San Jose de Garcia de Simi.

The city has two main businesses situated on opposite sides of the city. Within the east, the main business is tools and machinery with a total of 69 firms. The metal industry is within the west and has a total of 51 firms. various industries which are littered all over the cities industrial sectors are Food, Lumber/Wood, Apparel/Textile, Plastic Materials, and Minerals.

The biggest division of the Bank of America, (Formally the Countrywide Home Loans) has been headquartered in the Simi Valley, ever since the mid 1990's. This Company has three main office buildings within the city. One is situated in a building just off Madera Road, which was once home to Bugle Boy, a clothing company. The second is situated on Tapo Canyon, and the other is located on First Street.

The Volkswagen of America Design centre moved from Simi Valley to Santa Monica during 2006. Nonetheless, during its time within the Simi Valley, the firm hired a few automotive designers went on to become globally recognized for their abilities. Jay Mays (now VP Design for Ford and Freeman Thomas) and Thomas (who helped co design the original Audi TT) used to call Simi Valley home. The space has ever since been developed into an industrial complex.
