Costa Mesa city is situated in Orange County. This multicultural city hosts practically 114,000 residents in its sixteen square miles. On the cities southern boarder, roughly one mile away is the Pacific Ocean. Costa Mesa was incorporated in the year 1953 with a population of roughly 16,840. Initially, the cities market was dependent on semi rural farming but because the city has grown, it has come to depend increasingly more on retail commercial companies as well as action sports businesses, like for instance snowboarding, surfing and skateboarding. Los Angeles is situated about thirty seven miles northwest from the city. San Diego is 88 miles south and San Francisco is 475 miles north. Other cities that are near are Santa Ana, Newport Beach, Irvine, Huntington beach and Fountain valley.

The city is home to well maintained amenities that consist of two golf courses, three libraries, and over 25 parks. Costa Mesa is home to four post secondary institutions Orange Coast College, Nation University, Whittier Law School and Vanguard University, and includes 20 public schools.

There are numerous arts buildings that cater to the artists of the area. These buildings include the South Coast Repertory Theater, Orange County performing Arts Center and the Renee and Henry Segerstorm Concert Hall and Theater. The largest shopping center in the city, the South Coast Plaza, is home to over 320 stores. It produces among the highest volume of sales out of local shopping centers within the state of California.

The five story high Costa Mesa Civic Center covers 9.5 acres and is where the administrative functions of the city occurs. Also, the Council Chambers, Communications, Police Department, and Fire State No. 5 could be found here. The Center could be found at 77 Fair Drive.

It is really convenient to go to the city, with the state highways 55 and 73 running through it as well as the Interstate 405.

There are several activities to do around the city, with numerous high/low deserts, beaches and mountain ranges near Costa Mesa. People who are interested in a more urban experience can head to Palm Springs, Disneyland and Knott's berry Farm, and Los Angeles (which is home to a variety of sports arenas and major league teams).
