Tucson (population 520,116) is a city in the state of Arizona, United States. It serves as the county seat of Pima County. The city of Tucson is located inside the southern section of Arizona, just 98 km north of the Mexican border. The city of Phoenix lies 188 km to the northwest of Tucson. The population of the metropolitan area is just more than one million. The city of Tucson is the 2nd biggest city in the state after Phoenix. Tucson is the nation's 32nd biggest city.

The city of Tucson attracts more than 3.5 million tourists annually and is a key city within the Arizona Sun Corridor. The business of tourism brings in more than $2 billion every year into Tucson's many hotels, resorts and attractions. Tucson is called "Optics Valley" due to the roughly 150 companies designing and manufacturing optoelectronic systems and optics.

There are many large incorporated suburbs within the city of Tucson, such as: Marana, Oro Valley, Sahuarita, and South Tucson. Some communities lie within or overlap the city limits, like for instance Catalina Foothills, Casas Adobes, Flowing Wells, New Pascua, Tanque Verde, Sahuarita, Tortilita and Vail.

The city of Tucson is the home of the University of Arizona. The university is a center of economic development in the city and the 2nd biggest employer. One more large employer is the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, on the southeastern edge of Tucson. Numerous local people are working at the US Army Intelligence Center, Fort Huachuca, located in Sierra Vista. These core industries encourage a considerable number of high-tech businesses to locate in the area, including government contractors.

The state, city and county governments and the private sector have devoted to fostering a healthy area economy built on a foundation of advanced technology business sectors. The following businesses have a presence in the city of Tucson: IMB, Bombardier Aerospace, Raytheon Missile Systems, Intuit Inc., Texas Instruments, Sunquest Information Systems, Ventana Medical Systems, Sanofi-Aventis and Universal Avionics.

The city of Tucson has many yearly events, such as the largest gem and mineral show in the globe. The Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, and over 40 associated shows, are held during the early part of February every year.
