The city of St. Thomas is a small city located within southern, Ontario. The city was incorporated in the year 1881. Nowadays its main trade is automotive making. Today it is the seat for Elgin County and has a population of 36,110 (based on the 2006 Census). The population had increased 8.4 percent ever since the the year 2001 census count. During the year 2005 the median income for St. Thomas households was $54,876, roughly $6,000 less than the provincial average.

The global recession has had a huge impact on the auto sector within St. Thomas. During March the year 2009, the Sterling plant stopped operations, and, even with Herculean efforts on the part of the Ontario government so as to save it, the Ford plant is slated to close in the year 2011. The closures have had a significant impact on local part makers.

Nonetheless, during the year 2010 two new investments hold out promise for many new jobs for St. Thomas city. Masco Canada's consolidated their Canadian operations into the previous Sterling Truck assembly plant, and Takumi Stamping Canada announced a big expansion.

St. Thomas City has several lovely trails and parks. The Trans Canada Trail goes through the city. Pinafore Pond on the city's south side is Pinafore Park's site. In the north of the city, Waterworks Park is straddled by Kettle Creek and the Waterworks Reservoir. The Lions Club Dog Park is accessed from Talbot Road and is open each day from dawn to dusk. The St. Thomas Dog Owners Association manages the park in partnership together with St. Thomas City.
