The Oakville Arts Council is the main promoter of Oakville City's arts and culture. The Council is a charitable non-for-profit umbrella group which represents different creative and artistic members from the Oakville arts community. It likewise publishes Arts About Town, the only magazine which is solely dedicated to arts matters and local artists. Oakville is home to numerous exhibits, art galleries and studios. The Gallery at Sheridan Institute is recognized as a creative centre within the city. Anyone is invited to walk from gallery to gallery within downtown Oakville or drive the streets to go to artisans' studios. There are also wood, pottery, sculpture, glass, prints and paintings accessible for visitors. The Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts houses many performances by international and native artists. It is even the main venue for the Oakville Symphony Orchestra and the Oakville Ballet Company. The Oakville Museum at Erchless Estate interprets and preserves the town's history through the home of the founding family, the Chisolms. Tourists can likewise enjoy a walking tour of the estate gardens and grounds with a view of the Oakville Harbour.

Some of the major attractions within the city of Oakville are Bronte Provincial Park, Bronte Sovereign House, Conservation Halton, Burlington Museums, Heritage Canada, Golf Hall of Fame and Museum, Oakville Galleries, Oakville Centre, Oakville Historical Society, and the Ontario Heritage Foundation. Conservation Halton is a community-based environmental agency which protects, restores and manages the natural resources in its watershed. The Museums of Mississauga shows the past at the Bradley Museum. It reflects daily life during the 1830s, and at Benares Historic House which captures life in Mississauga during the early twentieth century. Oakville Historical Society discovers, preserves, and promotes the historical heritage of Oakville Ontario for over 55 years.

The Town of Oakville's Economic Development Strategy just received an award, the EDAC/RBC Financial Group Economic Development Achievement of the Year award, from the Economic Developers Association of Canada. The ten-year economic strategy focuses on achieving three goals: draw knowledge-based industries within the life sciences, professional services and advanced manufacturing sectors; respond to the needs of the business community to foster business retention and expansion; and explore international business opportunities.
