Centennial is a city located within Arapahoe County, Colorado within the US. It is a part of the Denver-Aurora metropolitan region. According to the 2010 Census, the city of Centennial had a total population of 100,377, making it the 10th most heavily populated city within the state of Colorado. The city was incorporated on the 7th of February, 2001 and at that time the municipality was the largest in U.S. history. Out of the country, Centennial is ranked as the 15th safest city.

The city was made from parts of unincorporated Arapahoe County, including the former Southglenn and Castlewood CDPs or census-designated places. There was a vote on the 12th of September, 2000 for the people to pick a name and Centennial became the official choice. The name was selected to reflect the admission of Colorado to the Union as the 38th State during the year 1876. This was the centennial year of the USA's Declaration of Independence. Around 77% of the voters approved the incorporation. As the population of the region was more than 100,000 it was made the largest incorporation within U.S. history as of its creation.

Centennial covers 72km2 or 27.9 square miles. The city of Centennial is approximately divided in half by Interstate 25. The majority of its entertainment and business centers are located west of the highway. The boundaries of the city are fairly irregular and evocative of a gerrymander. The suburban eastern sections of the city appear with portions of Aurora, Foxfield and areas that are incorporated also.

There are numerous ravines, hills gullies and open spaces which are accompanied by recreational trails, including the Highland Canal, Dry Creek Dam and DeKovend Park. Centennial is home to a lot of native wildlife and is a part of the front-range ecosystem of the state of Colorado. The city of Centennial has seen an increase in coyote populations over recent years. This increase has resulted in resident education about ways to deter coyotes from eating pets of the family within the region.

The city of Centennial is situated part of the states fastest growing suburban areas. Centennial welcomes new business and supports sustainable development. Centennial is a main hub for business and industry and is home to successful and huge corporations like Jeppesen, Oppenheimer Funds, Cisco Systems, Comcast and United Healthcare Management Company, Inc. Centennial Airport is conveniently situated close by and is amongst the busiest general aviation airports in the country.
