The City of Arvada is a Home Rule Municipality situated within the Jefferson and Adams counties within the Denver-Aurora-Broomfield, Colorado Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 2010, the Census recorded 106,433 residents in the city making it the most populous city within the state of Colorado. Olde Town Arvada is situated 11 km or 7 miles northwest of the Colorado State Capital of Denver.

June 22, the year 1850 is the first documented discovery of gold in the Rocky Mountain region. Mr. Lewis Ralston was a prospector from the state of Georgia. He was on his way to the California gold fields when he decided to dip his sluice pan into a small stream near its mouth at Clear Creek. He successfully found around 1/4 ounce or 6g of gold that was then worth roughly $5. The stream was named by his companions in his honor as Ralston's Creek. All the men left early the next morning still very excited to discover the gold fields within the state of California.

There is a fantastic trail system that joins with the foothills of the Rocky Mountains to the west and Denver trails on the east. The historic downtown in Arvada is actually listed on the National Register of Historic places. This downtown core provides a fantastic variety for dining as well as an eclectic shopping experience. Eventually, the downtown will also comprise one of three transit stops in the region as part of the metropolitan FasTracks light rail system within the city of Arvada. Arvada takes great pride in being home to the biggest cultural center and multi-disciplinary art center within the nation, the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities.

The city is amongst the most attractive and most desirable locations to live in Colorado, and enjoys a diverse economic base, a low crime rate, a highly educated workforce and an excellent quality of life.

Through a unique partnership between the government of Arvada and the citizens, the Arvada Center has offered regular dance and theatre performances ever since it was dedicated on July 4, the year 1976. The facility regularly provides art exhibitions, ceramic classes, and provides locations for writing, dance, acting and the visual and musical arts. It has also served as a history museum in the past. The Arvada Center has more than half of its patrons visiting from outside of Jefferson County. The center proudly serves more than 350,000 visitors annually.
