The town of Huntsville is situated within the Muskoka Region of Ontario. The region of Muskoka has been known as "cottage country," with various lakes amongst its hilly landscape on the Canadian Shield. Huntsville Town is 130 kilometers south of North Bay and 215 kilometers north of Toronto.

The population of the town is approximately 18,000, while the summertime attracts a lot more to the area as they flock to cottages and seek access to the western portion of the Algonquin Provincial Park. The town of Huntsville entertains a steady stream of summer vacationers.

During May 2010, Huntsville made headlines as the host city of the 36th G8 summit. Another claim to fame: singer Shania Twain was initially discovered at nearby Deerhurst Resort during the years 1988 to 1989.

Huntsville has a place in Canadian art history as the place frequented by Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven, who painted many of their well-known works here. Building on its status as a place of artistic prominence, the Town of Huntsville built a Group of Seven Outdoor Gallery. The gallery's main feature is 40 outdoor murals celebrating the work of the artists who made the Canadian landscape famous. The Huntsville Art Society is active in hosting and promoting shows, workshops and exhibits.

The town of Huntsville proudly hosts various arts festivals, consisting of the Huntsville Festival of the Arts. The festival has spawned a book called Fringe Festival Poetry: Poems from the Poetry Cafe. The yearly Muskoka Novel Marathon has taken place here ever since the year 2001. The Huntsville International Film Festival (or likewise known as HIFF) is a new festival. Nuit Blanche North was produced by Edge of the Wood Theatre and the Huntsville festival of the Arts.

Youth camps - like for example Camp Nagiwa, Muskoka Woods, Olympia Sports camp and Ontario Pioneer Camp - are all within a short drive of Huntsville. In the town of Huntsville are various great resorts, such as Hidden Valley Resort and Cedar Grove Lodge.
