Essex town is located along the shores of Lake Erie in southwestern Ontario Province. Essex is the largest municipality, with about 20,000 residents, in the region of Essex County for which it serves as the County seat.
The town of Essex is really proud of its local sports teams. Essex is the home of the Essex 73's, which won a League Record 16 Great Lake Titles together with an Ontario Record 6 Provincial Titles, making it the most successful Junior C franchise in Ontario Province. The club plays in the new Essex Centre Sports Complex. Two minor hockey associations - the harrow-Colchester South Minor Hockey Association and The Essex Minor Hockey Association - are in Essex. Essex Town likewise has the Sun County Triple A.
The reigning Varsity Division Champion, the Essex Ravens football club, won the championship game in 2010, by defeating the Cumberland Panthers 39-32. The club plays at Essex District High School's Raider Field.
The Harrow Fair is held every Labour Day weekend. This particular fair is the oldest community fair within Ontario and attracts a lot of visitors to Essex. The Essex Fun Fest is held each and every second week of July.
