Beaumont City is situated in the Beaumont-Port Arthur Metropolitan statistical part and forms the Golden Triangle with the cities of Port Arthur and Orange, that is an essential industrial part on the Gulf Coast. Currently, the city of Beaumont has a population of approximately 118,000 and is the county seat of Jefferson County.
The city of Beaumont sits roughly 30 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico and is situated on the coastal plane south of the dense pine forests of East Texas. In the year 1824, Noah and Nancy Tevis first settled in the area when they Made a farm on the west bank of the Neches River. A small community began to grow around the farm making use of the name of Neches River or Tevis Bluff Settlement. Thomas B. Huling, Henry Millard and Joseph P. Pulsifer purchased the small community along with the nearby community of Santa Anna in 1835 with the intention of planning a town. It was named after Mary Dewburleigh Barlace Warren Beaumont, the late wife of Henry Millard, who passed away during 1834.
