Memphis City, the third largest city within Tennessee State and the third largest within Southeast US, is the county seat of Shelby County. It is within the southwest corner of the U.S. state of Tennessee. It is considered the youngest of the four major cities of Tennessee consisting of Knoxville, Nashville and Chattanooga.

The city brings the character of the American South to the forefront of the regions culture. There are many legendary musicians who grew up around the Mississippi Delta area near Memphis. The American music genres, which include Crunk, Buck, Gospel, Blues and Rock n' Roll originated from Memphis City.
