Brighton is a town in Northumberland County, Ontario, Canada, around 150 kilometres or 93 miles east of Toronto and 100 km or 62 miles west of Kingston. It is intersected by both Highway 401 and the former Highway 2. It is on the West end of the Bay of Quinte on the Murray Canal entrance.

The town of Brighton has largely been an agricultural community, focusing on the production of apples, even introducing many new apple types. Then again, in recent years, a lot of the original orchards in the region have been partly removed, to be able to make way for the steadily growing population, and agricultural products which are more profitable, like for instance: soybeans, wheat and corn. In the latter part of September, the town of Brighton is host to Applefest, its biggest yearly festival.

The Town of Brighton is the creation formed from the Town of Brighton and Brighton Township. Presently, the township supports a population of around 10,200 inhabitants, with a lot of the inhabitants being retired. This is normal, as the friendly, quiet and clean surroundings of many smaller townships near lake Ontario have a tendency to draw the elderly as popular places for retiring. Lots of small hamlets surround the town, such as Codrington, Carman, Hilton, Spring Valley and Smithfield.

Just south of the town is the Presqu'ile Provincial Park, amongst the towns most well-known attractions. The park is noted for birdwatching and other nature-oriented activities.

Brighton's downtown core is beautifully lined with unique stores and service establishments. The Downtown Business Improvement Area works extra hard to keep the streets tidy, maintain store fronts and decorate township utilizing signs, fresh flower pots and banners.

The Brighton Farmers' Market operated form the spring to the early fall season, within the downtown area on Proctor Street, where lots of local produce and handmade items is found.

The town's original founders date back to the mid-19th century, even though there is some disagreement concerning the beginnings. The Simpson families of the area were thought to be the founders, shown nowadays with monument commemorating the founding of Brighton. The counter-evidence points to the presence of the Thayer family within the area. They were Scottish settlers which came to the region some years prior to the arrival of the Simpsons. The Thayers, it is said, were harvesting apples from the fertile soil around the Brighton area even before the Simpsons had even arrived. Descendants of these families reside in the township to this day. The original Simpson house, more than 150 years old, is situated on 61 Simpson Street.
