Portland (population 583,776) is a city in the state of Oregon and the county seat of Multnomah County. The population of the Portland metropolitan area is 2,260,000. Located near the convergence of the Columbia and Willamette rivers, Portland is the most heavily populated in the state of Oregon. It is the 3rd largest city in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. Just the city of Seattle and Washington have higher populations.

In the year 1851, Portland was officially incorporated as a city. Today the city of Portland is known as an environmentally friendly and "green" city. The city of Portland boasts a sophisticated public transportation network, including light rail transit. Portland's commission-based government is considered progressive for its efficient land use planning. The city of Portland extends south to Lake Oswego within the county of Clackamas and west to the county of Washington.

Portland is a well-known rose growing center, enjoying a west coast marine climate. The city has been called "The City of Roses" and is home to the International Rose Test Garden and many rose gardens. The weather is characterized by warm, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Portland is well-known for its beer scene, with numerous microdistilleries and microbreweries making various local beers with unique names. The city of Portland is also known for its coffee and exciting cafe scene.
