It is situated in both Will and Dupage Counties, with approximately two thirds of Napervillians living in the county of DuPage, and another third in Will County. The community was named for Captain Joseph Naper after it was inhabited in the year 1831. It officially became a city in the year 1890. Naperville was a quiet, farming community until the 1960s when the population started to grow. During the 1990s, Naperville was one of the ten fastest growing cities in the United States.
