Harrison McCain Scholarship

The Harrison McCain Scholarship/Bursary is pen to any high school student in Canada, with preference given to Canadian citizens and/or permanent residents. The criteria for the awards include a minimum 80% average in their senior year of high school, demonstrating financial need, leadership qualities and a recognized initiative in funding their own education.

2025 Admissions Awards Application

The Admissions Awards Program was established by Saint Mary's University with the support of alumni, staff, community members and businesses, with the intent of meeting a variety of student needs through scholarships, bursaries and awards. These awards have a broad range of eligibility criteria, such as community involvement, extra-curricular activities, academic achievement and/or financial need.

The Admissions Awards Program is administered by the Financial Aid & Awards Office. Questions about becoming a Saint Mary's student and applying for entrance-level awards can be sent to the Recruitment Office by contacting recruitment@smu.ca.

Eligibility Requirements

You must be a new student entering an undergraduate program at Saint Mary's University, directly from high school.

You must have completed the undergraduate application and been accepted (or admissible) by February 15, 2025.

Application Instructions

To be considered, students must submit the following application. Part 1 is required of all applicants, while Parts 2 and 3 are only required for students wishing to be considered for specific awards.

Part 1 (Required): General Admissions Awards

• No supporting documents are required.

Part 2 (Optional): Financial Need-Based Admissions Awards

• Only required if you wish to be considered for Admissions Awards that take into consideration your financial need.
• Must submit a statement of financial need (no minimum length required, but no more than 500 words).

Part 3 (Optional): Presidential/Presidential International Baccalaureate/Santamarian Scholarships & Sobey National Innovator Scholarships

• Only required if you wish to be considered for these specific awards, which have additional eligibility criteria.
• Must submit a 750-word personal essay based on your community involvement, contribution to school life and plans for the future.
• For the Sobey National Innovator Scholarship only, you must also submit a resume and a letter of recommendation from a high school Principal, Guidance Counsellor, or teacher.

Application Deadline

The application for 2025 Admissions Awards will be open from November 1, 2024 at 9am until February 15, 2025 at 11:59pm. Only applications received during this time will be considered. Early or late submissions will not be reviewed. If the same individual applies more than once, we will use the most recently submitted application.
