When is the application deadline?

How does the selection process work?
A selection committee comprised of Yukon Energy representatives will review applications. Evaluations will be based on the merits of the application and will consider leadership qualities, balanced lifestyle (i.e. community involvement, extra-curricular activities) and, for first year students, will also consider financial need.
The selection committee may require an interview with applicants. Failure to participate by phone or in person for an interview may result in scholarship ineligibility.
The proceedings of the selection committee are confidential and its decisions are final.
When are the scholarships awarded?
Scholarships are awarded by late August. You will be informed in writing of the selection committee’s decision.
For first-year students: if you are chosen as a recipient, you will receive a lump sum payment of $3,000 in September, once confirmation of your course participation is received.
For second to fourth-year students: if you are chosen as a recipient, you will receive September payments of $3,000 per year for three years (totaling $9,000).
The Yukon Energy scholarship is classified as income by Revenue Canada and must be declared when filing an income tax return. The program coordinator will provide you with a T-4A slip before the end of February each year you receive a scholarship from us.
Yukon Energy will contact you in the spring of your second year and the spring of your third year to discuss summer employment opportunities. The multi-year scholarship comes with a guarantee of two summers of work with Yukon Energy as long as you continue to be enrolled in your program and maintain passing grades.
