Empowering Immigrants Scholarship

At Sussman Law Firm, we believe in the power of education and the resilience of immigrants and first-generation students. That’s why we’re proud to offer the Empowering Immigrants Scholarship, designed to support students who have overcome unique challenges on their journey to higher education. This $1,000 scholarship aims to help ease the financial burden of college while celebrating the stories that shape our diverse communities.

If you’re an immigrant or the first in your family to attend college, we invite you to share your story. In 750-1000 words, tell us about you or your family’s immigration journey, the obstacles you’ve faced, and your educational goals. We’re excited to honor the determination and spirit that drives students like you to succeed.

Eligibility

• The scholarship is available to current high school seniors, vocational students, college students, or graduate students who are legal residents of the United States, living in any of the 50 states or the District of Columbia. Applicants must be enrolled in a vocational program or a two- to four-year post-secondary institution for Spring 2026 semester.
• Individuals employed by Sussman Law Firm, along with their immediate family members (including parents, children, siblings, and spouses) and anyone residing in the same household (regardless of relation), are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.
• Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and maintain good academic standing to be considered.

Application Requirements

• The candidate must submit a 750 -1,000 word essay response to the prompt: Are you an immigrant or the first in your family to attend college? We invite you to share your unique story! Tell us about your or your family’s immigration journey that has brought you to this point, the challenges you’ve overcome, and the dreams that drive your educational journey. This is your chance to inspire others and shine a light on the spirit that defines students like you!
• Please note that all essays will be checked for AI writing. If AI writing is deemed present in the essay, the application will be denied.
• The candidate must submit a professional resumé that lists their experience, both professional and academic.
• The candidate must submit a transcript from their current school. First-year college students, graduate students, or individuals who have recently transferred schools may submit an unofficial transcript from their current school, as well as the most recent official transcript from their prior school. High school students can submit proof of acceptance to their college or university.
• Preference will be given to students either from or attending secondary school in North Carolina.
