BBJ Community Leadership Scholarship

Brown Bass & Jeter is a full-service litigation firm proudly owned by Black women in Jackson, Mississippi. The firm’s partners are trailblazers who lead with a shared belief that empowering and rebuilding local communities is key to broader societal progress.

In alignment with this mission, Brown Bass & Jeter is excited to offer a $1,000 scholarship to college or post-secondary students who demonstrate a commitment to leadership and community development.

What We Are Looking for in Applicants

This scholarship is designed for emerging leaders from diverse backgrounds committed to making a positive impact. Whether you’re a first-year undergraduate or a third-year law student, we want to hear from individuals who show initiative and passion for their communities. Applicants should be able to point to experiences, such as extracurriculars, internships, employment, or volunteer work, that highlight their leadership potential and community-minded values.

Please write an original 1,000-word essay on the following topic: Include the chosen topic at the top of your essay. Your essay must be submitted as a PDF document with your scholarship application.

Many great leaders are determined and committed to their causes. Write about a reason you feel passionately about and explain how you could—or already have—led others to care about it.

Eligibility Requirements

• Minimum GPA: 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
• Must be enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited undergraduate, graduate, or community college program in the U.S.
• High school applicants must submit a college/university acceptance letter.
