Since 1981, the Engineers Foundation of Wisconsin (EFW), has been dedicated to providing scholarships and support to outstanding high school students pursuing engineering as a professional career.
Sponsored by the Wisconsin Society of Professional Engineers, the EFW promotes engineering education through annual scholarships. These scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement, community involvement, extracurricular activities and need.
The Louis C Geiger Scholarship is named after Louis C. Geiger. Louis, who as the 1968 WSPE President, advanced the engineering profession and our High School Students Awards Program.
Scholarships Available
- EFW College Freshman Scholarships (for current high school seniors)
- The Engineering Foundation of Wisconsin Scholarship
4 Scholarships, of $3,000 each
- The Louis C Geiger Scholarship: 3 Scholarships of $3,000 each.
- The Terry Ni Engineering Scholarship: 1 to 6 Scholarships at a minimum of $3,000 each.
- The Robert G. Cooper Scholarship: 1 Scholarship of $3,000.
- The Harold D. Kobbervig Memorial Scholarship. Up to 3 to 6 Scholarships of $3,000 to $5,000 each. Limited to high schools in Racine, Kenosha and Walworth Counties.
There are other scholarships that are awarded through the local WSPE chapters to the students in their geographic area.
- Only for high school seniors entering either a 4-year Bachelor of Science Engineering program or a 4-year Bachelor of Science Engineering Technology program. The program must be accredited by ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology).
- Applicant should have intent to enter the professional engineering field upon graduation:
- GPA equal to, or greater than 3.2
- ACT Composite Score equal to, or greater than 26
- Computer Science majors are not acceptable
Awards: One-time grant to the most outstanding applicants(s) meeting eligibility requirements. NSPE-WI statewide may grant up to 14 at minimum of $3,000 each. The Terry Ni Engineering Scholarship (http://www.tnscholarship.org) may fund 1 to 6 at a minimum of $3,000. The NSPE-WI Chapters may award grants also. Funds will be disbursed directly to the financial office of the recipient’s college upon verification of enrollment. Some NSPE-WI Chapters may interview applicants.
Scholarship winners’ schools will be notified directly by email and selections will be posted at http://www.wspe.org/scholarships.

- ACT score printout
- Background information beginning at high school (word-processed bulleted lists, black 12 pt. Arial font, 1.5 line spacing, 1 page) to include:
- Extracurricular activities and positions held (best 8: including hours per activity and total hours of all activities)
- Academic Honors and Awards (best 5: not sports or extracurricular activities)
- Work experience during school and summers (include paid hours worked, a brief description of duties, and total of all work hours)
- Volunteer civic/community activities (best 5: including hours worked, a brief description of duties, and total of all activity hours)
- Essay (word processed, black 12 pt. Arial font, single line spacing, max. 400 words)
- Artificial Intelligence (ChatGPT, Co-Pilot, Gemini, etc.) may not be used to prepare essay content.
- Provide your engineering field of interest and top two college preferences.
- Explain your motivation to pursue a career in engineering.
- Describe your vision of a successful career path
